Ceres - Vintage 2010
This was the year of the “light switch”. Although the numbers for accumulated heat, rainfall and wind run were at or about normal the weather arrived in concentrated bursts. It alternated hot and cold, wet and dry, windy and calm often a week or 10 days apart.
This made growing the grapes and responding to their needs particularly challenging. The flowering, by and large, was not negatively affected by poor weather and yields were at or above the desired levels. This meant that bunch thinning needed to occur to hit yield targets.
A long and cool autumn ensured a good diurnal range during the ripening phase which meant that the acids were retained as well as allowing a decent long physiological ripening phase. The wines that were produced in 2010 were balanced and are charaterised by a wide range of fruit flavours.
Many local winemakers continue to be excited by what 2010 will offer in the long term and the Ceres 2010 is looking fantastic in bottle already!
